When you use the internet, you leave a trail of data behind which happens when you visit websites, emails you send, information you submit online or any online activity is considered digital footprint in which can be used to track a person's online activity (Kaspersky, 2026).

Your digital footprint can affect your friendships, relationships and even job opportunities permanently for the rest of your life so being aware of your choices is crucial (Esafety Commissioner, 2025).
